Tehama County Department of Education

As a Program Sponsor for CTE Credentialing in California, we would be happy to evaluate your experience to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications for a Preliminary Career and Technical Education (CTE) credential in one or more industry sectors that align with your work experience. Please note that our office does not issue CTE credentials until the candidate has secured an offer of employment.

For us to complete the review, you must provide documentation of both your educational qualifications and 3,000 hours (3 years) of recent work experience. We can use unofficial transcripts during this process.

After you submit the required documents verifying your education and work experience, our office will review them to ensure they meet the minimum requirements.  If everything is in order, we can provide a letter confirming your eligibility for a Preliminary CTE Teaching Credential in the aligned industry sector(s), which you can use in your application package for potential employers.  The fee associated with this service is $50.
Should you obtain an offer of employment in a teaching position aligned with the CTE Sector(s) you qualify for, you would need to submit a formal application package through our office to issue a preliminary CTE Credential with official documents.   When we have the completed application package with verification of your employment, and the California Commission on Teaching Credentials (CCTC) has issued your Certificate of Clearance, our office would submit a recommendation for your preliminary CTE credential to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). The final authority to grant or deny a credential rests with the CCTC. Your employer would then need to enroll you in our two-year sequence of coursework to clear your credential.
