Tehama County School Readiness Project is a project of the Tehama County Department of Education and is funded by First 5 California and First 5 Tehama. School Readiness operates the First Steps Family Resource Center located on the Los Molinos Elementary School Campus.

The First Steps Center is part of an organized network of Family Resource Centers in the County of Tehama. Resource Developers provide case management and support to families with the goal of improving family functioning.

The center has a monthly calendar of events including playgroups, parenting classes, family socialization opportunities, and Literacy events. We also provide assistance to families in applying for Healthy Families, and other community resources that families may need.

Bilingual Liaisons provide a home visiting program to parents of young children using the Parents as Teachers home visitation curriculum. School Readiness outreaches to pre-school age children in the community and those waiting for preschool services, advocating for preschool opportunities, and offering resource home visits, FAST (Families and Schools Together) and Kinder camp at many school sites to children who are getting ready to begin kindergarten without the opportunity for a preschool experience.

School Readiness works closely with the schools to assist with improving the readiness of children as they enter kindergarten, and facilitating planning and communication around the topic of successful transitions for parents, early care providers, preschools, and elementary staff.

Our dedicated staff is committed to helping children and their families.

“The First Steps Family Resource Center has a certified application assistant in the office that can process Healthy Families and Medi Cal applications in about 15 minutes. Anyone with a child under 19 and/or pregnant women can call and make an appointment to submit an application for Healthy Families or Medi Cal. Applicants are asked to bring proof of income, proof of residence and birth certificates for each child.”
